Work: Returned from October table: demolish non-contributing West College Street structure and construct four-story, six-unit residential condominium with ground-floor parking garage and roof deck; mass marked with four weather balloons Nov 19-20 Type: demolition, new_construction Staff rec: approve with conditions (final drawings and exterior materials on separate CA; verify four-story structure does not block the historical view corridor of Main Street) Discussion: Ware backed it as "probably the wave of the future... either lead the parade or follow behind; there is no in between," while Telford said it was "too much mass and did not fit in this location" and Cox noted it would hide his church steeple. Three citizen protest letters were read; Shope abstained citing "a business relationship with this property," and Telford asked that Council "know the vote was not unanimous." Mrs. Harris said they would retain as much of the original house as possible and search salvage suppliers for correct historic items.
